i knew this guy in middle school who when asked about his future plans, even by school counselors or teachers would without fail always chant,

KICK ASS, GO TO SPACE
REPRESENT THE HUMAN RACE

i wonder what he’s up to these days.

I was walking home along a busy road when I saw this tiny black domestic rabbit in an empty parking lot, so I walked closer to take some pictures.

After I took these pictures, I thought, well that’s terrible! Someone abandoned this poor little rabbit! So I set about to catch him. Luckily, I had a long sleeve shirt with me in case the weather turned cold.

He couldn’t hop about very well, and he didn’t know how to jump over things either! When I first got the shirt over him (might be a her, I’m just being lazy), he started squealing/screaming. It’s not a pleasant sound. :(

So I had him all wrapped up in my shirt, still squealing, and I was worried about him suffocating, so I tried to get his head out and he made a break for it. He got out of my grip and then ran under the fence, so I had to run around to another parking lot to get him. By then, he knew I was after him so he was running a lot faster now.

He also ran head first and then bumped into those concrete bars at the end of parking stalls and instead of jumping over, turned and ran alongside. A lady walked by and stared at me for a while as I attempted to catch the rabbit a second time. She left just before I caught him. This time, no rabbit screams happened, and I just made sure that I could at the very least see a bit of his fur but didn’t try to let his head out. He didn’t struggle much anymore - I probably wore him out. :( Terrified him in the process, too, most likely. I’m sorry little bunny.

I continued my walk home, and some people waiting at a building nearby asked me if I caught a bunny so I said yes. One lady wanted to see it, but I told her the bunny might run away again, so she was ok with not seeing him. He was tiny, could fit on my palm.

He kept backing up in my hand as I walked home, so I made sure my shirt was well wrapped around his butt. My own rabbit roams around the house, so the cage is free, but I needed to wash it first, so I put the bunny in a box with some hay, food pellets and water.

It took me a while to wash first the cage and then a litterbox before I could put him in the cage. After I did so, that was when I noticed it… The poor rabbit’s eyes weren’t open!

Rabbits have to be at least 10 weeks old before they can be separated from their parents, so I was worried that he was too young, so I called the Humane Society to see what I should do.

At first, they were worried I had caught a wild snowshoe hare, but when I told the lady in the phone that he was all black, she said I could take him to a 24-hour pet clinic and they would take him in as a stray. So I called the clinic and they said to bring him in, so I did.

While I was filling out a form at the pet clinic, one of the ladies there told me that the rabbit doesn’t seem to be that young (as in, not really a baby, at least old enough to be on his own), and that most likely he was just born blind…!!!

Well!!! Most likely that’s why he had been abandoned! People are terrible sometimes! They could’ve taken him to the Humane Society instead of just abandoning him on the streets! It was a busy street, too! And crows and magpies would’ve hunted him! :(

As I was finishing up the form, the lady informed me that one of the girls working in the back (where the kennels are) was thinking about adopting the little bunny. Well, as long as the cute rabbit finds a good home, I’ll be happy! The entire time I was trying I decide whether or not to keep him before I got worried that he was too young.

My dear little black rabbit, I hope you find a good and happy home! Too bad I forgot to take some better pictures of him before I took him to the pet clinic.
